Industrial Printing

The main industrial printing process are:

Offset lithography- the process of printing from a flat surface treated so as to repel the ink except where it is required for printing.

Flexography- a rotary relief printing method using rubber or plastic plates and fluid inks or dyes for printing on fabrics and impervious materials such as plastics, as well as on paper.

Digital printing, inkjet and xerography
Gravure- is a Wasei-eigo term derived from "rotogravure", which is a type of intaglio printing process that was once a staple of newspaper photo features. The rotogravure process is still used for commercial printing of magazines, postcards, and cardboard product  packaging.

Screen printing- force ink or metal on to (a surface) through a prepared screen of fine material so as to create a picture or pattern

Ideas using my mannequin and final design Unit 16

These are the first ideas of using the mannequin. I scanned the mannequin and traced it next to the IStudio. This is just the first idea so it is a bit boring.

Research about the logos. Unit 16

I found out there are different types (genres) of logo. They are below.

  • Wordmark (Text) ...
  • Lettermark (Initials) ...
  • Brandmark (Symbol or Icon) ...
  • Combination Mark (Text and Symbol) ...
  • Emblem (Text Inside Symbol)

http://www.companyfolders.com/blog/5-different-logo-design-styles-which-type-fits-your-brand (accessed Jan. 15th 2017)

This is a wordmark logo. The colours used plain black with stripes of white to create the lettering. In fact the white lines are created by having the shapes of the letters close, but not touching. The letters are created with simple shapes. For example the R is created with a rectangle shape and a circle shape.
The Brass agency is a creative content studio from digital gaming, advertisements and films. The genre of this logo is a letter mark logo.
To create this logo in illustrator you would use the rectangle tool and the ellipse tool to create the basic shapes. To cut the circles in half, I would use the knife tool and hold option button to keep it straight.
This logo is very standard just one shade of  colour on the writing which is brown, but the 3D V shape on the left catches the viewers eyes because it is bright and the tone of the colours stands out. The colour the designer uses are pink, purple, and brown. This is a more of a modern version logo using bright colours to emphasise the modern design. The genre of this logo is a mixture of wordmark and brandmark.
This logo is very rockstar like, there are two shades of colours, black with a gradient silver. The colours represent the designers image of the logo which would be a dark image of a picture making the target audience think hard about the logo. The size of the text is very big to catch the viewers eyes. This is a urban style logo where the designer used big writing almost graffiti like with the sharp edges on the end of the  letters. The genre of this is a word mark.
If I was going to make this logo I would open up illustrator, create a new file and open a grid. Then i'll use the rectangle tool to create the letters that shows on the logo.

Typographic Hierarchy

we were asked to open a file from the server called typographic hierarchy and to take a screen shot of the 4 paragraphs. Then we was asked to change something like the weight, size, colour, type contrast, and position. The 4 paragraphs above shows what I have changed such as the title in the first one I made it bold and changed the colour of the font. The second one I changed the Colour of the title and also made it bold.

TYPOGRAPHIC STYLE

Type design can give your words a (1) VOICE  It can really add meaning and enhance the (2) MESSAGE of your words. For example, on the Dizzie album they have used some really (3). CHEEKY and chunky typography here. It not only (4) ILLUSTRATE the word but loads it with (5) CHARACTER  and it's great for someone that has personality like Dizzie. In contrast to this one, I've got the Saturdays album and the typography here is really (6) ELEGANT and beautifully crafted. It's much much more (7) FEMININE than the Dizzie one and it works very well with the fashionesque shoot on the front. In total contrast to my last two albums, I've got the Prodigy Dirtchamber sessions. They've used found and (8) DISTRESS type on the front cover and all the way through the album including the booklet where they've hand (9) SCRATCH all the track names into the booklet. And I think this works really beautifully with the (10) MISH MASH of music that is on the CD
The Saturdays album and the typography here is very elegant and mature.
The background of the album is very dull but the dresses they are wearing are very bright,
which shows that they want to stand out the most. Compared to the Dizzee Rascal album the Saturdays album is more feminine while the dizzy rascals album looks more kiddish and entertaining.

Its a small format cover, with the background colour of blue which has no depth to it.
The words are a mixture of colours such as white, red, and pink; the red stands out the most.
The words are chunky and round

Woolwich garden centre

The development of a logo. It started with primary research (the plant drawing). Then working in Adobe Illustrator to develop a suitable image with suitable type. There needs to be a unity about the design. The number of colours are kept to a minimum; a successful logo should work in black and white and be adaptable for an online presence as well as for print. Various sizes are needed too. By producing a vector image, the logo can be scaled from the very large to the very small without losing sharpness and detail.

Flower gradient

1. Set up a new file to work on. A4 size landscape will be good.

2. Draw a circle with the ellipse tool. Hold the shift button to create the circle. Leave the colour as default (white fill and black line). The size doesn't matter too much at this stage.

3.  Go to the Effects menu > Distort and Transform > Roughen

4. Using the sliders, make the circle slightly rough. You will need to experiment. There really is not the "right" amount to chose. Smooth points might be best as we are creating flowers. But again you might want to experiment.

5. The circle will look something like the one below.

6. Expand the circle. Go to the Object menu > Expand Appearance.  There will be no change in the appearance of the rough circle

7. Double click on the Scale Tool (in the Tool Panel). It is the middle tool in the picture below.

8. Enter 80 in the Uniform Scale field. Again there is not "right" amount and you should eventually experiment. But this is fine for now. Don't click OK.

9. Make sure the Preview is turned on. Press the Copy button. (The other options are fine to leave as they are).
Now you will have two objects on the art board similar to the picture below.

10. Rotate the selected object slightly by clicking on the Selection Tool (black arrow) and rotating a corner handle. OR you could click on the Rotate Tool in the Tool panel and rotate the object.

11. Keep repeating step 7 though 10 so that you have many objects on the art board.
